PURPOSE: The two-year associate degree in radiography is designed to provide a quality entry-level education in radiography through a competency-based clinical and didactic instructional curriculum in diagnostic imaging. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination leading to certification and registration as a Registered Technologist in Radiography: R.T.(R)(ARRT).

CREDENTIALS: The college has entered into a regional reciprocity agreement through NC-SARA to accept out-of-state students (except for students residing in California) in our online programs and courses. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 18 years of age by the first day of classes.
Must be a current Brightpoint Community College student.
Submit a program application with a completed application checklist.
Provide copies of all college transcripts.
Submit a Transfer Credit Request Form for any general education courses that need to be considered for transfer from another institution.
By the application due date, applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing the following general education courses with a “C” or higher:
- SDV 100 - College Success Skills
- ENG 111 - College Composition I
- MTH 154 - Quantitative Reasoning
- BIO 141 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I (within 10 years)
- BIO 142 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II (within 10 years)
General education courses must have a combined GPA of at least 2.5.

Applicants who meet all requirements are not guaranteed admission into the program.

Successful completion of 51 radiologic technology course credits

Special Considerations: The ARRT requires several types of misconduct, charges, and convictions to be reported. They include, but are not limited to: misdemeanor or felony charges or convictions, military courts-martial, disciplinary actions taken by a state or federal regulatory authority or certification board, serious honor code (academic) violations such as patient abuse, violating patient confidentiality, and cheating. If there are concerns about potential ethics violations that may be barriers to taking the national certification examination, it is highly encouraged that applicants request an ethics review before applying to or enrolling in a program. This process can take several months to complete and there is a non-refundable fee. The program is certified to operate by The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).

Brightpoint Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the associate degree.

The program is an approved educational program by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) through its recognition of Brightpoint Community Colleges accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The program is in the process of obtaining initial program accreditation with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
