PURPOSE: Introduces students to the museum field. Also offers professional development for students already employed by museums and other cultural organizations engaged in the display and maintenance of collections. Program may be completed online.
By the completion of this program, students will be expected to demonstrate an introductory level of competency in the following skills:
- Describe the importance of a museum’s mission to its core activities.
- Summarize the policies and procedures that should be followed when working with museum collections, including those related to: acquisitions, dispersals, risk management, and care and handling.
- Successfully complete an internship at an approved museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Students must meet JTCC admission requirements. New students should visit the Advising Center and returning students their faculty advisor for more information.
