Business Administration, Paralegal Studies Specialization, AS

PURPOSE: This program is intended to provide the student with a general course of study in paralegal studies at the freshman and sophomore levels and prepares the student for a baccalaureate degree program in paralegal studies at select colleges and universities.

By the completion of this program, students will be expected to demonstrate an intermediate level of competency in the following skills:

  1. Research and evaluate a case brief.
  2. Write a memorandum of law.
  3. Analyze a financial statement, using generally accepted accounting principles.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and skills needed in areas of law, including criminal law, torts, contracts, and family law.
  5. Recognize and apply basic economic principles related to macroeconomics theories.
  6. Recognize and apply basic economic principles related to microeconomics theories.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Students must meet JTCC admission requirements. Students may need to complete placement tests in English and mathematics. Visit www.jtcc.edu/placement for all course placement options. If students have deficiencies in English and/or mathematics, JTCC offers developmental and prerequisite courses to prepare students for the curriculum. New students should visit the Advising Center and returning students their faculty advisor for more information.

NOTES:
1Students are strongly encouraged to complete their SDV, ENG, and MTH requirements first.
2Students should regularly meet with their faculty advisor and check their advisement report in MyTyler – SIS.
3Students with good computer skills may seek to satisfy this requirement by CLEP or internal exam.
