PURPOSE: This two-semester, hands-on program prepares students for entry-level jobs in the energy field. Energy technology workers may either assemble, install, and maintain geothermal or solar systems on rooftops or other structures; install, maintain, and repair wind turbines; or help maintain the systems that generate and distribute electric power. This program is offered at the Chester Campus. All career-technical degrees are guided by advisory committees comprised of local business leaders.
CREDENTIALS: A Career Studies Certificate (CSC) is a program of study typically less than one year in length with a major in a career-technical area. Students receiving a CSC intend to pursue immediate employment.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Students must meet Brightpoint admission requirements. Students may need to complete placement tests in English and mathematics. If students have deficiencies in English and/or mathematics, Brightpoint offers developmental and prerequisite courses to prepare students for the curriculum. New students should work with their New Student Navigator to get ready for their first semester. They can also email getstarted@brightpoint.edu for assistance. Continuing students should work with their faculty advisor on academic planning and graduation requirements.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES: By the completion of this program, students will be expected to demonstrate an introductory level of competency in the following skills:
- Install electro-mechanical components according to manufacturer’s specifications;
- Perform alignment, calibration, and maintenance procedures as specified by manufacturers;
- Troubleshoot failures, malfunctions, and misapplication of electro-mechanical components.
