PURPOSE: This one-year program prepares students for entry-level jobs in cybersecurity and networking. It also provides training for students already working in the field. Jobs include network analyst and cyber threat analyst. This program is only offered online. All career-technical degrees are guided by advisory committees comprised of local business leaders.

CREDENTIALS: A Career Studies Certificate (CSC) is a program of study typically less than one year in length with a major in a career-technical area. Students receiving a CSC intend to pursue immediate employment. This program contains preparation for the CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, and Certified Ethical Hacker CEH certifications.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Students must meet Brightpoint admission requirements. New students should work with their New Student Navigator to get ready for their first semester. They can also email getstarted@brightpoint.edu for assistance. Continuing students should work with their faculty advisor on academic planning and graduation requirements.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: By the completion of this program, students will be expected to demonstrate an introductory level of competency in the following skills:

Demonstrate knowledge of network security models and network security policy.
Communicate effectively in IT environments using research, writing, and presentation skills.
Apply knowledge regarding network attacks, hacking, and protection measures.

ITN 262 - Network Communication, Security and Authentication 4 credits
ITN 263 - Internet/Intranet Firewalls and E-Commerce Security 3 credits
ITN 266 - Network Security Layers 3 credits
ITN 267 - Legal Topics in Network Security 3 credits

ITE 290 - Coordinated Internship 1 credit

All information technology courses must be completed within five years of student’s intended graduation date.

Students should regularly meet with their faculty advisor and check their advisement report by accessing the Student Information System (SIS) through the myBrightpoint portal or the Academic Planner in Navigate.

To enroll in ITE 290 Coordinated Internship, students must have completed all coursework or be concurrently completing coursework in present semester for graduation with faculty advisor’s approval.

Students who have completed the following industry certifications may receive credits toward completion of this program. Meet with faculty advisor for details.

CompTIA Network+ is equivalent to 3 credits for ITN 101
CompTIA Security+ is equivalent to 3 credits for ITN 260

Note that in order to receive a degree or certificate at Brightpoint at least 25% of the credits must be completed at the college.
